A while back we went to Marlow’s Tavern, a comfy, cozy pub attached to the Doubletree Hotel near Northlake Mall. This location is one of six, with the others located in Alpharetta, Duluth, Kennesaw, Midtown, and Vinings. This one is the only one attached to a hotel, btw.
The main dining room was roomy and inviting, with booths, tables, and bar seating. They also have a roof-top patio, half of which is covered. Live entertainment was to begin on the patio at 8:00 PM, but we had movie plans.
The drink menu looked pretty good, with a fairly wide choice of wines, beers, and spirits – including several interesting looking martinis. There were a dozen or so craft beers, several of them from local breweries, and plenty of choices in wines as well. Kathy had a merlot and I had a Duck-Rabbit Porter.
The food menu included several vegetarian appetizers, including the ever-popular hummus (we went with the Truffled Parmesan French Fries, served in a paper cone), as well as a number of vegetarian sides like Fried Okra and Jalapeño Corn Grits (both of these were excellent).
Vegetarian entree choices were pretty limited, however. They had a number of burger platters, in which the beef could be substituted with a black bean burger patty. We chose that option and split one of the Southwest burgers, topped with veggie chili and tempura jalapenos, and it was really, really good. For sides we had the above mentioned okra and grits. Yum!
At the end of our meal, Tara, a Marlow manager, came to our table to check on us, ask if we enjoyed it, etc. We told her that the service was great (it was – very friendly and attentive), that the food was delicious (but they could use a few more vegetarian choices), and that we would definitely be back (again, true). Then we asked about their take-out containers and were very pleased to learn that they used biodegradable cartons. Locally “grown”, as it were, because they’re made by a company in Columbus, GA. Tara said that the restaurant had eliminated all use of Styrofoam and used biodegradable containers whenever possible. Hot liquids and extra-small servings (sauces, condiments) still dictated some plastics use, but they chose biodegradable products when they could.
It was a nice place with good food and great service. I do wish they had more vegetarian entrees, but we’ll go back I’m sure.
Food and service was great!!
